✨ How I Structure a Week of Agility Training ✨
One of the most common questions I get asked is: “How do you plan your week of agility training?” The truth is — a balanced structure makes all the difference. It’s not just about how many hours you put in, but how smartly you use them.
Here’s how I break it down ⬇️
1️⃣ Focused Skill Sessions and Foundations
I dedicate short, targeted sessions (5 mins) to one skill at a time. For example: start lines, weave entries, or wraps. This prevents overwhelm and lets my dog really master the details.
2️⃣ Course Running & Handling
Once or twice a week, I set up full courses to test lines, timing, and handler cues under pressure. This is where I connect the dots between the skills we’ve been polishing.
3️⃣ Fitness & Conditioning
Both handler and dog need to stay strong, fast, and injury-free. That means incorporating warm-ups, cool-downs, and extra fitness work like core strength, sprint intervals, or balance training.
4️⃣ Mental Game & Fun
I always leave space for confidence-building games, tricks, and decompression walks. Agility is about teamwork, joy, and trust — not just repetition.
5️⃣ Rest Days, Flatwork, and Recovery
Probably the most underrated part of the plan! Dogs need 1–2 full rest days to recover physically and mentally. Fresh bodies = sharper runs.
🌟 The key is rotation: skills, courses, fitness, mindset, and rest. That way, every week builds consistency while keeping training exciting.
